Глагол to ask 1. обычно употребляется с двумя дополнениями, одно из которых (чаще прямое) может быть выражено как существительным или местоимением, так и придаточным предложением:

    He asked her what she had done (where it was, when…, why…).

    (2). В пассивной конструкции при наличии двух дополнений, одно из которых обозначает одушевленный предмет, практически только оно употребляется в качестве подлежащего:

    He was asked many questions.

    The cat was given some milk.

    Этому правилу подчиняются глаголы to envy, to teach. (3). Русское просить передается глаголами to ask и to request. Глагол to request используется преимущественно в пассивной форме и в книжной, официальной речи:

    Passengers are kindly requested not to smoke — Убедительно просим пассажиров не курить.

    (4). В конструкции с инфинитивом глагол to ask требует обязательного косвенного дополнения to ask smb to do smth. В отличие от английской конструкции, в русском языке в аналогичной конструкции косвенное дополнение не обязательно и часто опускается:

    She asked us not to be late — Она просила не опаздывать.

    Ср. He asked me to call him back in ten minutes — Он попросил перезвонить ему через десять минут.
